Biography

Out of the Darkness...

Born to and raised by a Cleric Eilistraee in Waterdeep, Mal was raised away from the cruelty and misanthropic views of his Underdark kinfolk. Unfortunately this didn't mean he wasn't aware of the prejudice levied at his own kind—his parents, up until then disappearance of his father (who unbeknownst to Mal had actually undergone the Change Dance and living as a women) took in many runaways from the Lolth-Sworn Drow’s society.

Intelligent and morbid even at a young age, Mal was often ridiculed by his peers. This left him isolated, even as he attended schools and apprenticeships to hone magical skills and satisfy the curiosity about that world. Lonely, but far too aware there was something off that made others dislike him, Mal sank himself into his studies.

Necromancy became his calling, not for the power it provided, but to find exactly what it was that he was missing compared to everyone else. To find this theorhetical missing piece, he took up anatomical studies within laboratories, morgues, and carnal houses of Waterdeep. Upon the end of his final year of study, he hopped ship to Baldur’s gate, taking up residency there and working with other anatomists as both coroner and handling the arrangements for the deceased.

This peaceful existence (if one could call it that) would eventually be shattered when Mal was kidnapped by the Mindflayers allied by the Absolute…

Notable Quotes

At least because of you two, I know I'm not fundamentally unfuckable or unlikable. It is something, I suppose, but at least if I am unlovable I can have friends.
—spoken to Astarion and Nahbi, end of Act I
